The Fifth Avenue lobby is one of the most photographed art deco interiors in the world: imported marble, engraved elevator doors and the gold mural with the building itself as the sun. A US$ 165 million renovation brought all of it back to its original shine.

The observatory entrance is at 20 West 34th Street, steps from Fifth Avenue. Screening is airport-style — simple, quick, but better not to be in a hurry.

Is the time on the ticket New York time?
Yes. Every time shown here — at checkout, on your voucher and on the ticket — is New York local time (GMT-4 in summer, GMT-5 in winter). Plan the day by the clock in New York, not by the one where you are now.
Do I have to go up exactly at the time on my ticket?
The ticket is timed entry: it reserves your entry window. There is some leeway in practice, but at peak hours — above all at sunset — arriving on time is what makes the visit effortless. We recommend being at the entrance 15 minutes early.
Do children pay?
Children 5 and under enter free and do not need a ticket. From 6 to 12 there is a child ticket, and from 13 the adult ticket applies. Seniors 62 and over have their own rate, with ID shown at the entrance.
What if it rains?
The 86th floor is an open-air deck — in heavy rain or fog visibility drops, and parts of the deck may be closed for safety. The museum, the lobby and the 102nd (glass-enclosed) stay open. The building does not refund for weather, so it is worth checking the forecast before choosing your time.
How long does the visit take?
Between 1 and 2 hours for most people, counting the museum and the galleries. There is no time limit at the observatory: you can stay as long as you like.
Can I reschedule?
Yes, subject to availability. Message our concierge on WhatsApp as far in advance as possible and we will handle the change with the Empire State.
Is the building accessible?
Yes. The 86th and 102nd floor observatories are wheelchair accessible, with elevators along the entire route. If you need specific assistance, let the concierge know before your visit.
